SOMERS, Wis. – With a late fourth quarter surge, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team comes up short falling 75-80 to Rockhurst University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup in the DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers (6-14, 2-6 GLVC) went back and forth with the visiting Hawks (8-9, 4-5 GLVC) in the first quarter, trading the lead twice and tying the game five times. Parkside trailed 13-14 after the first quarter, with five of the points from
Carolina Rahkonen.
Rockhurst pulled away in the second and third quarters, leading the game 38-31 at halftime. The Hawks continued to pull away in the third with a 13-0 run, taking the largest lead of the game 58-38. UW-Parkside made a late rush in the fourth quarter getting as close as four points, only trailing 60-64 with 4:30 left in the game. Rockhurst was able to hold on and win 75-80.
Carolina Rahkonen led the team with 19 points (5 rebounds),
Hayley Maystead had a team high 7 rebounds (16 points), and
Ali Bettencourt was the Rangers' leader in assists with 6 (14 points). Rockhurst had ten different players score points in the contest, and they were led by Jillian Myers with 19.
The Rangers hit the road next week for pair of GLVC games, starting on Jan. 25 against #15 Southern Indiana at 5:30pm.
