Women's Basketball Announces Recruiting Class

SOMERS, Wis. – Wisconsin-Parkside head coach Jacob Yorg announced that Lucija Bilic, Aina Cabrero, Jessica Lauderdale, Alisha Murphy, Johanna Myers and Gwen Streblow have signed national letters of intent to attend Wisconsin-Parkside next season and play women's basketball for the Rangers.

"I'm really happy with this group of players," said Yorg. "We believe we've assembled a group of driven, high-character student-athletes that will help us continue to develop this program."

Bilic, a 5-11 guard/forward, transfers to Wisconsin-Parkside after spending the previous two seasons playing at the College of Southern Idaho. Bilic, who is from Zagreb, Croatia, played for XVI Gimnazija High School.

"Lucija is going to fit in perfectly here at Wisconsin-Parkside," Yorg said. "She is a relentless worker and will do whatever it takes for her team to win. She has a wealth of experience playing against high-level competition with the Croatian National Team and that experience, in addition to her work ethic and character, is what made her stand out. I believe her best basketball is ahead of her and we are lucky for her to be joining our family."

Bilic played for an outstanding program at the College of Southern Idaho as the Eagles posted a 49-16 record in her two seasons with the program. Her high school team finished third and second in the city championships and her U18 team won nationals for three straight years.

Cabrero is a 5-7 forward from Barcelona, Spain who competed for CIC High School in Barcelona. Cabrero, who also is a gymnast, helped lead CIC to a Catalonian regular season championship.

"Aina is the definition of hard-nosed and has a high basketball IQ that is coupled with an unwavering competitiveness," Yorg said. "I very much look forward to adding her intensity on both sides of the floor to our roster. She is a selfless teammate that takes pride in doing the little things and making her teammates better."

Lauderdale, a 5-4 guard, spent the last two seasons at Sacramento City College in Sacramento, Calif. She helped lead the Panthers to back-to-back postseason appearances in her two years at Sacramento City.

"Jessica has one of the best motors I've seen in a while. She plays so hard, and that is one of the things we liked most about her. Couple that with a knack for scoring and sharing the basketball, and it becomes a pretty dangerous combination. I am looking forward to watching her compete in practice every day, as I know she will challenge her teammates to better themselves."

Lauderdale led the Panthers averaging 16.7 points per game last season and also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. She was a second team all-state selection as a freshman and was a two-time all-conference choice.

Murphy, a 5-5 guard, joins the Rangers after playing for Wrightstown High School in Wrightstown, Wis. Murphy was a three-time all-conference selection at Wrightstown including being named a unanimous selection as a senior.

"Alisha is a tough, gritty point guard with great vision and the ability to get into the paint and draw contact as well as create opportunities for her teammates," said Yorg. "Her competitiveness and drive set her apart and we look forward to seeing her bring that every day as a Ranger."

Murphy helped lead the Tigers to a conference and regional championship during her senior season and a berth in the Wisconsin state tournament.

Myers, a 6-0 shooting guard, was a prolific scorer for Burlington Notre Dame High School in Burlington, Iowa. She scored 1,239 points in her high school career and led class 1A in scoring averaging 25.0 points per game as a senior.

"Johanna has amazing consistency, but it is her range that truly sets her apart, which will add an immediate 3-point weapon to our team," Yorg said. "She has an amazing passion for the game and strives to make everyone around her better. Johanna has a very bright future and I'm thankful she is now a part of our Wisconsin-Parkside family."

Myers was named the Southeast Iowa Superconference Player of the Year as a senior as well as being named first team all-district and first team all-region. She was a second team all-state selection by both the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Iowa Girl's Coaches Association.

Streblow is a 5-9 guard/forward who comes to Wisconsin-Parkside from Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Wis. Another outstanding scorer, Streblow owns the Plymouth High School record with 1,238 career points.

"Gwen is a great addition to our program.  She is a versatile, athletic forward that can really stretch the floor. She is very active on both ends of the floor and will be a great asset to us on the glass. I am so excited for her future here at Wisconsin-Parkside."

Streblow was selected as the East Central Conference Player of the Year as a senior and was an honorable mention all-state selection. She earned first team all-area honors on three occasions and was four-time All-East Central Conference selection.
