LIBERTY, Mo. -- Senior
Carly Dundee homered and drove in three runs, but William Jewell broke a 2-2 deadlock in game two with a three-run fifth inning and went on to defeat the Rangers 5-2 and complete a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Sunday at the William Jewell Softball Field.
William Jewell opened the doubleheader with a 10-2 victory in game one and then used a late rally to complete the sweep of the Rangers.
William Jewell improved to 24-22 overall and 13-11 in the GLVC, while Wisconsin-Parkside dropped to 15-27 overall and 9-13 in league play.
The Cardinals used single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead, but the Rangers rallied to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning.
Jessica Shields opened the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second when
Kellie Fenza laid down a sacrifice bunt. Dundee then delivered an RBI single to right to score Shields and cut the Cardinals lead to 2-1.
Later in the inning,
Morgan Sikon hit a clutch two-out single to bring home pinch runner
Emilee Nelson to knot the score at 2-2.
William Jewell used two singles and two Wisconsin-Parkside errors in the bottom of the fifth inning to push across three runs, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.
Shields was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Rangers in game two, while Fenza, Dundee,
Rachel Seefeldt and
Danielle Crockett each had hits for Wisconsin-Parkside.
William Jewell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one, but Dundee blasted her 10th homer of the season in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 2-2.
The Cardinals broke the game open by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning and tacked on two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to claim the win.
Dundee was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the opener, while Fenza, Seefeldt,
Cassie Walek and Crockett each added a hit for the Rangers.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Monday (April 24) when it visits Rockhurst for a GLVC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
