SOMERS, Wis. -- Junior
Danielle Crockett hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and senior
Carly Dundee allowed only one run over 7.0 innings leading Wisconsin-Parkside to a 2-1 victory over Maryville and a split of the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Friday at the Case Softball Complex.
The Rangers, who improved to 7-17 overall and 2-4 in the GLVC, trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before staging a game-winning rally.
Dundee led off the inning with a walk and pinch-runner
Emilee Nelson advanced to second base when
Rachel Seefeldt laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Morgan Sikon then followed with a single to left that moved Nelson to third base with one out.
Pinch-hitter
Raegan Fingerman then hit an 0-1 pitch through the right side that brought home Nelson to tie the game at 1-1. The Rangers then loaded the bases when
Megan Aliverti drew a walk and Crockett then ripped a line drive to right that plated pinch-runner
Adrien Hall with what proved to be the winning run.
Dundee then set down the Saints in order in the top of the seventh inning with two groundouts and a pop up to secure the win for Wisconsin-Parkside. Dundee worked 7.0 innings and allowed just four hits and struck out four to secure her fourth victory of the season.
Jessica Shields,
Kellie Fenza, Sikon, Fingerman and Aliverti each had base hits for the Rangers in game two.
Maryville, which dropped to 14-12 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the game two loss, won the opener 4-1. Courtney Ferguson hit a home run and scored two runs and Nikki Taylor, Courtney Klosinski and Kelsey Martin each had an RBI for the Saints.
Maryville scored a run in each of the first three innings before Wisconsin-Parkside got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.
Madison Manders, who had two hits, hit a one-out double to left and came around to score when Fenza singled up the middle to cut the lead to 3-1. The Rangers were stymied by Taylor the rest of the way as she went 7.0 innings and permitted four hits while striking out three batters.
Allison Hausl pitched well in relief for the Rangers in game one as she went 5.0 innings and allowed just one hit and two runs while striking out a pair of batters.
Manders led Wisconsin-Parkside with her two hits, while Shields and Fenza each added a base hit for the Rangers.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Saturday (March 25) when it hosts Missouri-St. Louis in a GLVC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at the Case Softball Complex.
