Dundee, Seefeldt Lead Rangers to Split at Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa -- Seniors Carly Dundee and Rachel Seefeldt each drove in three runs leading Wisconsin-Parkside to an 11-3 win in game two and a split of its non-conference doubleheader against Upper Iowa on Tuesday at the Eischeid Complex.

The Rangers rallied to win game two by scoring nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings to overcome an early 3-2 deficit, while the Peacocks won the first game 10-1.

Dundee was 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Seefeldt finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI. Wisconsin-Parkside, which banged out 12 hits in game two, also got three hits from Cassie Walek and two hits and three runs scored from Jessica Shields. Kellie Fenza and Megan Aliverti also had base hits for the Rangers.

Dundee was the recipient of the offensive explosion for the Rangers as she worked 5.0 innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out four batters to earn her third victory of the season.

Upper Iowa, which is 8-14 on the season, took an early lead by scoring two times in the bottom of the first inning but the Rangers rallied to tie the game in the third inning.

Walek led off the inning with a single and stole second base to move into scoring position. Shields followed by lashing a triple to left that brought home Walek and cut the Upper Iowa lead to 2-1. Following a groundout, Dundee singled to left to score Shields and tie the game at 2-2.

Upper Iowa responded with a run in the bottom of the third inning to regain the lead at 3-2, but the Rangers erupted for nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings to blow the game open.

Trailing 3-2, Aliverti began the rally by hitting a one-out single to right. Walek followed with a bunt single which pushed pinch runner Sara Markelonis to second base. The Rangers then loaded the bases with one out when Shields also reached with a bunt single.

Fenza put the Rangers ahead to stay when she singled to score Markelonis and Walek and the Rangers added a third run on the play on a throwing error which gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 5-3 lead. Seefeldt brought home the fourth run of the inning when she singled to right to score Fenza and increase the lead to 6-3.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 5-16 on the season, then put the game away by tacking on five runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Adrien Hall reached on a one-out error to get things started in the fifth inning. With two outs, Walek ripped a double to right center that brought home Hall to increase the lead to 7-3.

Shields walked and executed a double steal with Walek to put runners on second and third. Dundee followed with a double to center that brought home both runners and upped the margin to 9-3.

Seefeldt capped the inning by doubling to left center to score Fenza and Dundee giving the Rangers an 11-3 lead.

Upper Iowa broke open a tight game in the opener of the doubleheader by scoring a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings on its way to a 10-1 win.
