ROSEMONT, Ill. --
Raegan Fingerman hit a bases loaded double and
Bridget Jost and
Carly Dundee held Grand Valley State to one run as Wisconsin-Parkside defeated fourth-ranked Grand Valley State 6-1 on day two of the Lewis Midwest Regional Dome Tournament on Saturday in the Rosemont Dome.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 3-9 on the season, dropped its first game of the day to Wayne State (Mich.) 3-0 in extra innings before bouncing back to defeat the nationally-ranked Lakers.
Fingerman, who was 1-for-3, highlighted a six-run first inning against Grand Valley State with a bases loaded double.
Jost and Dundee were outstanding on the mound for the Rangers as the duo limited the Lakers to eight hits and just the one run. Jost started the game and worked the first 3.0 innings and allowed three hits and no runs. Dundee entered the game in the fourth inning and worked the final 4.0 innings allowing five hits and just one run while striking out two batters.
Wisconsin-Parkside jumped on Grand Valley State starter Courtney Reinhold for six runs in the top of the first inning.
Kellie Fenza led off the game for the Rangers with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Adrien Hall.
Cassie Walek followed with a walk and the Rangers loaded the bases when Dundee reached on an error.
Fingerman then ripped a bases-clearing double to bring home Fenza, Walek and Dundee and give the Rangers a 3-0 lead.
Danielle Crockett continued the extra hit parade as she hit a triple that scored Fingerman to increase the lead to 4-0.
Wisconsin-Parkside followed with a single by
Jessica Crull to up the lead to 5-0, and the Rangers loaded the bases for the second time in the inning when
Madison Manders doubled and
Allison Hausl drew a walk. Following a pitching change, Hall singled to bring home Crull to increase the lead to 6-0.
Jost and Dundee combined to make the lead stand up to end the Rangers three-game losing streak.
Wisconsin-Parkside opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Wayne State in nine innings.
Dundee turned in a gritty performance on the mound for the Rangers as she worked all 9.0 innings and permitted 13 hits, one earned run and struck out three batters. Despite pitching with runners on base throughout the game, the senior continually made pitches to get out of trouble. She did not allow a run until the top of the ninth inning.
Wisconsin-Parkside was held in check by Wayne State pitchers Megan Guitar and Lyndsay Butler who held the Rangers to two hits.
Jessica Shields and
Rachel Seefeldt picked up base hits for the Rangers on the day.
Wisconsin-Parkside will conclude play in the tournament with a game against Ashland on Sunday (Feb. 26) at 11 a.m.
