Rangers Fall to Lewis on Senior Day

SOMERS, Wis. -- Brittney Fair and Lauren Boerger each scored 12 points, but Jamie Johnson led three players in double figures with 20 points and Lewis spoiled Senior Night for the Rangers with a 77-55 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory on Thursday in the regular season finale for both teams in DeSimone Gymnasium.

Lewis, which improved to 21-7 overall and 13-5 in GLVC play, shot 47.5 percent from the floor while limiting the Rangers to 34.4 percent shooting.

Lewis used a 12-3 run to open the second quarter to take control of the game. The Flyers, who led 16-12 after the first quarter, got a three-pointer from Johnson to start the run.

Rachel Hinders scored back-to-back layups to extend the Lewis lead to 23-12 with 7:55 to play in the second quarter. Boerger hit a three-pointer for the Rangers to cut the lead to 23-15 at the 7:38 mark, but Hinders scored on a short jumper and Kayla Brewer connected on a three-pointer to up the lead to 28-15 with 4:45 to play before halftime.

The Rangers trailed by 30-19 following a layup by Hayley Maystead, but the Flyers closed the quarter on a 6-1 run to take a 36-20 lead into the intermission.

Lewis then stretched the lead to 43-24 when it opened the third quarter with a 7-4 run, but the Rangers would rally.

Fair hit a three-pointer and Boerger hit a jumper to cut the lead to 43-29 at the 6:47 mark of the third quarter. Gabby Green countered with a layup for Lewis, but Olivia Montague hit a jumper and Taylor Stephen and Maystead converted layups to cut the lead to 45-35 with 4:09 to play in the third quarter.

Lewis used a 7-1 lead to increase the lead to 52-36 at the 2:01 mark of the third and led 56-42 after three quarters.

A three-pointer by Montague brought Wisconsin-Parkside to within 56-45 with 9:20 to play in the game, but Hinders hit a layup to push the lead to 58-45.

Fair hit a jumper for the Rangers to trim the margin to 58-47, but a three-pointer by Brewer upped the lead to 61-47 and the Rangers would not get closer than 12 points for the remainder of the game.

Fair, who was honored prior to the game on Senior Night, also had three assists, a steal and a rebound in her final home game in DeSimone Gymnasium. Boerger had 12 points and six rebounds, while Stephen finished with nine points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Bailey North, who has missed all but two games this season due to injury, was also honored prior to the game on Senior Night.

Johnson led the Flyers with 20 points, while Hinders had 18 points and Jessica Kelliher added 16 points and seven rebounds.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 10-16 overall and 8-10 in conference play, will next compete in the GLVC Tournament on Sunday (Feb. 26) against an opponent to be determined.
