Rangers Sweep Trinity International in Home Opener

SOMERS, Wis. -- Morgan Sikon and Rachel Seefeldt each homered in game two and Carly Dundee tossed a one-hit shutout in game one leading the Wisconsin-Parkside softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Trinity International on Wednesday at the Case Softball Complex.

The Rangers defeated the Trojans 8-0 in game one and completed the sweep with a 16-2 victory in game two in posting their first two wins of the 2017 season.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 2-6 on the season, broke a 2-2 deadlock in game two by scoring 14 unanswered runs to coast to the victory. The Rangers had 13 hits and six extra-base hits in the second game led by Sikon and Seefeldt.

Sikon broke the 2-2 tie with a home run to centerfield that gave the Rangers a 4-2 lead. Megan Aliverti singled in Cassie Walek to up the lead to 5-2 and Seefeldt ripped a three-run homer to left to increase the lead to 8-2.

The Rangers tacked on eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to blow the game open. Aliverti led off the decisive fourth inning with a walk and pinch runner Madison Manders advanced to second when Seefeldt singled up the middle.

Rilie Berg delivered an RBI single up the middle that scored Manders to increase the Rangers lead to 9-2. Jessica Crull walked to load the bases and Danielle Crockett delivered a two-run double to center that brought home Seefeldt and Berg to push the margin to 11-2.

Sikon and Walek followed with RBI groundouts to increase the lead to 13-2. The Rangers loaded the bases when Kellie Fenza singled, Dundee walked and Manders reached on a fielder's choice and Seefeldt ripped a single to right center that brought home Fenza and upped the lead to 14-2.

Berg walked to force in anothe run and Crull capped the scoring with a single to left center that scored Manders.

Freshman Allison Hausl was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst as she posted her first career win in a Rangers uniform by working 5.0 innings and allowing just four hits and one earned run. Hausl walked one and struck out two batters to improve to 1-2 on the season.

Seefeldt was 4-for-4 in game two with five RBI, while Sikon had three RBI. Walek went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Fenza was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Berg and Crockett also drove in a pair of runs for the Rangers.

Dundee was brilliant on the mound in the opener for the Rangers as she allowed just a fourth-inning single and struck out six batters on the afternoon. She also was 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run.

The Rangers jumped on the Trojans by scoring four times in the first inning after Dundee cruised through her half of the inning.

Walek singled up the middle to begin the rally and advanced to second when Adrien Hall followed with a base hit. Dundee followed with the Rangers third consecutive hit which scored Walek and gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

The Rangers executed a double steal to score their second run of the game. Dundee stole second base and Hall stole home giving Wisconsin-Parkside a 2-0 lead.

Aliverti roped a double to left to plate Dundee to up the margin to 3-0 and Seefeldt capped the scoring in the first inning with a single that brought home Aliverti making it 4-0 Rangers.

Wisconsin-Parkside added a run in the third inning when Crockett singled to right to score Aliverti to increase the lead to 5-0.

Wisconsin-Parkside scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game via the run rule.

Sara Markelonis began the game-winning rally with a single to right and advanced to second when Seefeldt reached on a fielding error. Manders moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt and Crockett followed with a single that scored Markelonis to increase the lead to 6-0. Hausl followed with a single to right that brought home Seefeldt and Raegan Fingerman ended the game when she hit a single to right that scored Fenza with the eighth run of the contest.

The Rangers will return to action on Friday (Feb. 24) when it competes in the three-day Lewis Flyers DII Midwest Regional Dome Invitational.
