SOMERS, Wis. -- The Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team will look to carry the momentum gained from two road victories last week to its regular season finale on Thursday (Feb. 23) against Lewis at 5:30 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Rangers, who have already earned a spot in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, secured their place in the postseason with road victories at Saint Joseph's and Indianapolis.
Sophomore
Lauren Boerger hit a jumper with 8.1 seconds to play in regulation leading the Rangers to a 69-67 victory at Saint Joseph's and then tallied a career-high 19 points in the 66-62 victory at Indianapolis. Boerger had plenty of help in securing the two victories as senior
Brittney Fair poured in a career-high 29 points, and had the assist on the game-winning basket by Boerger, in the win at Saint Joseph's, while
Blair Arthur hit a pair of key three-pointers in the win at Indianapolis.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which enters the game having won three of its last four games, has posted a 7-5 record at home this season and has won five of its last six in DeSimone Gymnasium.
The postseason picture for the Rangers is murky in trying to determine where the Rangers will finish in the league standings. If Wisconsin-Parkside wins it could be one of six teams in the conference tied with a 9-9 record in GLVC play. A Ranger loss would send them on the road for an opening round game of the tournament on Sunday (Feb. 26).
Fair is the leading scorer for the Rangers as she is averaging 13.6 points per contest, while Boerger is averaging 7.6 points per game.
Shelby Cheston leads the Rangers averaging 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots per game while also scoring 7.0 points per contest.
Lewis enters the game with a 20-7 overall record and a 12-5 mark in the GLVC, but the Flyers dropped their last two games at Indianapolis and at Saint Joseph's. Jessica Kelliher is one of the top players in the GLVC as she averages 20.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 67.6 percent from the floor. Jamie Johnson also averages in double figures for the Flyers at 17.7 points per game.
Lewis defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 74-62 on Dec. 11 at Lewis. The Flyers 39-34 in the third quarter before ripping off a 16-0 run to take control of the game. Cheston and
Asiah Lawson each scored 12 points in the game for the Rangers.
The Lewis game will also mark senior day for the Rangers as Fair and
Bailey North will be honored prior to the start of the game.
