ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Senior
Carly Dundee had two hits, including a home run, but Wisconsin-Parkside dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Winona State on Friday in the Rochester Dome.
The Warriors won the opener 11-1 and completed the sweep with a 10-0 victory in game two.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 0-6 on the season, also received two hits from
Kellie Fenza in the opener. The Rangers tallied seven hits in game one, which included base hits for
Jessica Shields,
Megan Aliverti and
Adrien Hall.
Dundee put the Rangers in front in the first inning of game one when she ripped a solo homer to left giving Wisconsin-Parkside a 1-0 lead.
Winona State, which raised its record to 3-1 on the season, responded with 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Warriors would tack on another run in the bottom of the third inning.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which left seven runners on base, had opportunities to close the gap.
In the second inning,
Emilee Nelson reached on a fielder's choice and Hall singled up the middle to put runners on first and second with two outs, but Winona State starter McKenna Larsen struck out the next batter to get out of the inning.
In the Ranger third inning, Shields singled to left to open the inning and advanced to second when Fenza followed with a base hit to center. Both runners moved up on a fly ball, but Larsen got a groundout and a strikeout to end the inning.
Fenza hit a one-out single in the fifth inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Dundee singled to left to advance Fenza to third base, but a groundout and a foul out ended the game.
Nelson pitched well in relief for the Rangers as she worked 4.0 innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out two batters.
Larsen picked up the win on the mound for the Warriors and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in. Samantha McLean also had two hits and three RBI for Winona State in game one.
Jordyn Kleman led the Warriors to the win in the second game as she tossed a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters. The Rangers only two base runners reached via walks.
Lani Van Zyl had three RBI in game two, while Allyson O'Herron and McLean each drove in a pair of runs.
The Rangers return to action on Feb. 24-26 when they compete in the Midwest Region Dome Invitational hosted by Lewis. Wisconsin-Parkside will play Findlay, Winona State, Wayne State, Grand Valley State and Ashland in the three-day tournament.
