Bulldogs Halt Rangers Home Win Streak

SOMERS, Wis. -- Senior Brittney Fair scored 14 points, but Rachel Edmundson and Ashley Hartwig each scored 18 points and Truman State snapped the Rangers five-game home winning streak with a 63-58 Great Lakes Valley Conference win on Saturday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

Fair was 6-of-16 from the field to lead the Rangers, while Taylor Stephen and Lauren Boerger each finished with eight points. Kauri Jensen had seven points and seven rebounds off the bench for Wisconsin-Parkside.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 8-15 overall and 6-9 in the GLVC, shot 35.9 percent from the floor for the game and was outrebounded 46-38.

Truman State, which raised its record to 12-12 overall and 7-8 in conference play, also received 10 points from Cassidy Clark. Hartwig finished with a double-double for the Bulldogs as she had 11 rebounds to go along with her 18 points.

Truman State raced out to an 17-5 lead in the first quarter before the Rangers rallied with an 11-0 run.

Jensen began the run with two free throws and Blair Arthur added a pair of free throws that cut the Truman State lad to 18-11 with 34 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Clarisa Martinez made one of two free throws with three seconds to play in the quarter that brought the Rangers to within 18-12 at the end of the first.

Olivia Montague opened the second quarter with a three-pointer and Fair converted a three-point play that tied the game at 18-18 with 8:23 to play before halftime.

Brooke Bailey responded with a three-pointer for the Bulldogs and Jamie Gleeson followed with a layup that increased the lead to 23-18 with 6:39 to play in the second quarter.

The Rangers used a 7-2 run to tie the game for the second time. Boerger and Fair hit jumpers and Arthur capped the run with a three-pointer that tied the game at 25-25 with 4:34 to play in the second.

Hartwig broke the tie with a layup and the Bulldogs took a 34-32 lead into halftime.

Truman State had its best shooting quarter of the game in the third quarter as the Bulldogs shot 46.7 percent and pushed the lead to 51-46.

A basket by Cassidy Clark increased the lead to 53-46 with 8:10 remaining in the game.

The Bulldogs still led by seven before a three-point play by Fair trimmed the lead to 55-51 at the 2:42 mark of the quarter.

Hartwig made one of two free throws to increase the lead to 56-51, but Boerger hit a baseline jumper that brought the Rangers to within 56-53 with 1:08 to play.

Truman State then made 7-of-8 free throw attempts down the stretch to seal the victory.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 16) when it visits Saint Joseph's for a GLVC game beginning at 5:15 p.m.
