Rangers Fall to St. Cloud State in Season Opener

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Senior Carly Dundee blasted a three-run homer and pitched two innings of scoreless relief in game two, but St. Cloud State swept a doubleheader in the Rangers season opener on Saturday in the Husky Dome.

St. Cloud State, which improved to 8-0 on the season, won the first game 6-0 and completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory in game two.

Jessica Shields went 3-for-4 for the Rangers in game two, while Danielle Crockett, Cassie Walek and Dundee also had base hits. In game one, Wisconsin-Parkside got base hits from Walek and Raegan Fingerman.

Dundee went the distance for the Rangers on the mound in the opener. She struck out five batters and allowed six earned run in 6.0 innings of work. Freshman Allison Hausl made her Ranger debut on the mound in the second game and went 4.0 innings, allowed five earned runs and struck out two batters. Dundee relieved Hausl, pitching the final two innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three batters.

St. Cloud State used a four-run fourth inning to pull away from the Rangers in game one, and scored three runs in both the second and fifth innings to complete the sweep.

Alexis Jacobs had two RBI in game one and Rebecca Harps, Morgan Emmans and Maya Keating also drove in runs for the Huskies. Jessica Goerger had two RBI for St. Cloud State in game two, while Abby Bunnell, Alyssa Coletto and Jaiden Lund each had one RBI.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 0-2 on the season, trailed only 1-0 after three innings but the Huskies scored four times in the fourth inning and added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the 6-0 win.

The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but the Rangers rallied to tie the game.

Shields led off the inning with an infield single, and an out later Adrien Hall was hit by a pitch putting runners on first and second. Dundee then drilled a three-run homer to center to tie the game at 3-3.

St. Cloud State responded in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs to regain the lead at 6-3.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 12) as it faces Minnesota State-Mankato in a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m.
