SOMERS, Wis. – Four Rangers finished in double-figures as the UW-Parkside women's basketball opened up the GLVC season with a 76-71 win over Indianapolis Thursday night at DeSimone Gymnasium.

Parkside, who improved to 3-1 at home this season, jumped out to a huge lead with a big first quarter, as the Rangers outscored the Greyhounds 28-10 in the opening quarter. After Indy tied it up at 3-3, the Rangers went on a 16-0 run to take a 19-3 lead. After the team's went even at 16-16 in the second quarter, the Greyhounds came back to outscore the Rangers 17-9 in the third quarter and grabbed their first lead of the game with 3:46 to left the play. The Greyhounds took a 3-point lead with 1:35 to play, but Alisha Murphy answered with a go-ahead 3-pointer with :41 to play, giving the Rangers a lead they would not surrender.
Ali Bettencourt led the way for the Ranger offense, scoring 17 points and dishing out six assists. Carolina Rahkonen finished with 16 points and seven rebounds while Asiah Lawson added 15 and Murphy had 12.
Parkside got a huge life from the free-throw line, as the team went 18-of-22. Indy narrowly won the shooting battle (43.1 – 41.4) but the Rangers went +2 in the rebounding margin.
The Rangers are back in action this weekend, hosting MacMurray College on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. in DeSimone.
