Late Comeback Falls Just Short for Men's Basketball

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UW-Parkside men's basketball team nearly completed an amazing comeback on the road at St. Mary's in Texas Friday night, but a late Rattler 3-pointer thwarted the possible Ranger comeback win as St. Mary's came away with a 61-58 victory.

After leading 34-29 at the half, the Rangers found themselves down 58-48 with just 3:31 left to play after the Rattlers came out hot to start the half. Joe Borcia got the run going for the Rangers, converting an and-one and Espen Fjaerestad followed that with a 3-pointer from Borcia to cut the St. Mary's lead to 58-54. With 1:59 to play, Jameel Moore got to the free-throw line and went 2-for-2, making it a 2-point lead and Bret Barclay tied it up with a layup to make it a 10-0 Ranger run. The team's traded missed field goals until there was 18-seconds to play when St. Mary's Skyler Brooks hit a 3-pointer to put the Rattlers up 61-58, which went down as the final score. Fjaerestad missed a possible game-tying 3-pointer with 2-seconds remaining.

The Rangers fall to 0-3 this season while St. Mary's improved to 1-3. Three players finished in double-figures for the Rangers, as Fjaerestad led the way with 15 points. Borcia added 13 and Adam Bonk scored 11. Borcia also finished with eight rebounds while Barclay grabbed seven.

Parkside will finish out the trip to Texas with one more game, as the team battles Texas A&M International on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.
