SOMERS, Wis. – In the team's home opener, the UW-Parkside women's basketball team defeated Trinity Christian College 65-59 after a big second half effort Thursday night at DeSimone Gym.

The Rangers improve to 1-5 overall while the Trolls drop to 2-4 with the loss. Parkside outscored the Trolls 40-23 in the second half after drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line 22 times in the half. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead early, but didn't lead again until early in the fourth quarter when Ali Bettencourt connected on a 3-pointer with 9:47 left to play. The Trolls grabbed the lead once more in the quarter, but the Rangers jumped to an 8-point lead with 2:07 remaining and iced the game away at the free-throw line.
Hayley Maystead finished with her second straight double-double, going for 11 points and 10 rebounds. Two other Rangers finished in double-figures, as Bettencourt finished with 14 points and Asiah Lawson added 10 and six rebounds. Carolina Rahkonen also grabbed 10 rebounds and tallied eight points. Parkside outrebounded TCC 55-32, but the Trolls narrowly edged the Rangers in shooting, 33.8-percent to 32.3-percent
The Rangers will be home once more this week, hosting Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
