Brown Ties Career High in Victory at 12th-Ranked Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Senior Alexander Brown tied his career high with 27 points and Wisconsin-Parkside won its 11th straight game with a 75-65 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over 12th-ranked Drury on Thursday in O'Reilly Event Center.

Brown, who also scored 27 points in the Rangers last game against Indiana Northwest, was 9-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the three-point line to pace Wisconsin-Parkside.

Jake Verhagen was 6-of-11 from the three-point line and finished with 18 points. Wisconsin-Parkside, which entered the game ranked second in the nation in three-point field goal percentage shooting, shot 54.5 percent from beyond the arc and also shot 51.0 percent from the floor.

Wisconsin-Parkside improved to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the GLVC, while Drury fell to 10-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.

Verhagen drained a pair of three-pointers and Brown also added a three-pointer as the Rangers took a 19-11 lead with 13:18 to play in the opening period.

Drury rallied to take a 27-26 lead on a three-pointer by Tevin Foster with 6:22 to play in the first half.

Brown then gave the Rangers the lead for good with a layup at the 6:05 mark of the first period. Two free throws by Brown and a three-pointer by Bret Barclay pushed the Rangers lead to 33-27 with 5:05 remaining before halftime.

A jumper by Kyle Flanagan and a three-pointer by Verhagen gave the Rangers a 42-34 lead at the intermission.

Drury trimmed the Rangers lead to 49-46 on back-to-back three-pointers by Isaac Johnson with 15:21 to play in the second period.

Adam Bonk and Barclay responded with back-to-back baskets pushing the Rangers lead to 53-46 at the 14:01 mark of the second half.

A jumper by Kamau Kinder trimmed the Rangers lead to 59-54 with 5:35 to play, but Verhagen drilled a three-pointer and Kendale McCullum added a layup giving Wisconsin-Parkside a 64-54 lead with 4:49 remaining in the game.

A pair of three-pointers by Brown down the stretch helped the Rangers extend the lead to 12 points on two occasions.

Wisconsin-Parkside will put its winning streak on the line on Saturday (Jan. 7) when it visits Missouri S&T for a GLVC game at 3 p.m.
