SOMERS, Wis. -- Junior 
Shelby Cheston notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Wisconsin-Parkside  shot 71.4 percent from the floor in the first quarter and never trailed in a 78-54 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over visiting Illinois Springfield on Thursday in DeSimone Gymnasium.
Cheston recorded her first double-double of the season by posting season highs in both points and rebounds. She was 7-of-10 from the floor and also added four blocks, one steal and an assist for the Rangers.
Senior 
Brittney Fair scored a game-high 17 points and dished out seven assists, while 
Olivia Montague added 15 points on five three-point baskets. 
Blair Arthur added eight points and two assists and 
Clarisa Martinez came off the bench to score seven points and grab six rebounds.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 6-12 overall and 4-6 in the GLVC, extended its home winning streak to three straight games with the victory. The Rangers shot a withering 71.4 percent from the floor in the first quarter as they raced out to a 22-8 lead.
Cheston scored four early points as the Rangers jumped out to an 8-0 lead with 6:33 to play in the first quarter. Wisconsin-Parkside took its first double-digit lead of the game at the 4:27 mark of the first quarter when Arthur made a free throw to increase the Rangers lead to 13-3.
Illinois Springfield, which dropped to 8-10 overall and 2-8 in conference play, trimmed the lead to 15-7 on a jumper by Syerra Cunningham with 2:28 remaining in the opening quarter. The Rangers then closed the first quarter on a 7-1 run, which was capped by a three-pointer by Montague, to take a 22-8 lead after the opening period.
Wisconsin-Parkside opened the second quarter on a 13-0 run to blow the game open. A pair of jumpers from Cheston, and a layup by Fair, gave the Rangers a 28-8 lead with 8:23 to play before halftime.
Montague then followed with back-to-back three-pointers and Martinez capped the run with a layup that gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 35-8 lead with 6:16 remaining in the second quarter.
Fair had 11 points in the first half as the Rangers built a 43-22 lead at the intermission.
The Rangers, who outscored Illinois Springfield in every quarter but the fourth, took their largest lead of the game at 76-42 on a jumper by Martinez with 5:44 to play in the fourth quarter.
Wisconsin-Parkside limited Illinois Springfield to just 30.6 percent shooting from the floor, while shooting 47.5 percent. The Rangers took advantage of 20 Prairie Star turnovers and turned them into 26 points and also held a 45-40 advantage on the boards.
Illinois Springfield was led by Destiny Ramsey who scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 28) when it hosts McKendree in a GLVC game beginning at 1 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
