Rangers Host McKendree in Top Five Showdown

SOMERS, Wis. -- For the second time in four days, the Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling team will host a team ranked in the top five in the nation. On Tuesday (Jan. 24), fifth-ranked McKendree comes to DeSimone Gymnasium for a Great Lakes Valley Conference dual beginning at 7 p.m.

The Rangers, who are ranked third in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll and second in the NCAA Power Rankings, hosted third-ranked Maryville on Saturday in their inaugural GLVC dual and dispatched the Saints 27-12. Wisconsin-Parkside improved to 7-2 in dual matches with the win over Maryville and 1-0 in the GLVC.

Wisconsin-Parkside features five wrestlers ranked nationally led by All-American Nick Becker. Becker, who is 12-0 on the season, is the top-ranked wrestler in the country at 174 pounds and also is the defending national champion.

All-American Montrail Johnson, who also is undefeated at 12-0 on the season, is ranked second in the nation at 184 pounds. All-American Ronzel Darling, who has won seven straight matches and is 23-3 overall on the season, enters the dual as the fifth-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds.

James Lehman, who is ranked seventh nationally at 197 pounds, is 26-3 overall on the season and leads the Rangers in wins and pins with nine. Brett Scoles, who has a 17-9 overall record, is ranked ninth nationally at 157 pounds.

McKendree enters the dual match with a 9-4 overall record and an 0-1 record in conference action. The Bearcats dropped a 19-18 decision to Maryville to open the conference portion of their schedule.

The Bearcats feature four wrestlers ranked nationally led by Darren Wynn who is ranked third in the 141 pound division. Wynn sports a 24-5 overall record and three of his losses have come to top-ranked Nate Rodriguez of Maryville.

Ryan Strope is also ranked third nationally as he has posted a 27-7 overall record wrestling in the 157 pound division. Heavyweight Colton Pease is ranked third and has produced a 19-9 overall record this season.

Austin Geerlings, who wrestles at 165 pounds, is ranked eighth in the nation and has produced a 5-3 overall record.
