SOMERS, Wis. -- The Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling team hosted Maryville in the first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference dual in school history on Saturday and the Rangers made it a memorable debut as they powered past the Saints 27-12 on Saturday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

Wisconsin-Parkside and Maryville entered the dual match tied for third in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll, but the Rangers rode pins from All-Americans Nick Becker and Montrail Johnson to the convincing victory over the Saints. Becker pinned Travis Lang at 174 pounds, while Johnson followed with a pin of Zeb Wahle in the 184 pound contest.

After Matt Pratt edged Josh Anthony in the 165-pound bout, the Rangers lead was cut to 12-9 but Becker and Johnson recorded the two pins giving Wisconsin-Parkside a commanding 24-9 lead. James Lehman then salted away the win with a 9-5 win over Ethan Sheretz in the 197-pound match to increase the lead to 27-9.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the GLVC, also received wins from Ronzel Darling, Christian Robertson and Brett Scoles. Darling defeated Jaret Singh 8-6 at 125 pounds, while Robertson earned a forfeit victory over Nate Rodriguez in the 141-pound contest. Scoles posted the Rangers other win as he beat Nick McGhee 10-4 at 157 pounds.

Saturday also marked Alumni Day for the wrestling program as the Rangers welcomed back many of the top wrestlers in school history.

Wisconsin-Parkside will return to action on Tuesday (Jan. 24) when it hosts McKendree in a GLVC match at 7 p.m. in DeSimone Gymnasium.
