ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 2, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad earned a split in two matches by dropping the first match to Augustana University (SD) 3-2 (25-17, 25-19, 26-28, 12-25, 15-12) and picking up the win in the nightcap against Central Washington University 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22) at the Flyer Festival hosted by Lewis University.

In the morning match, the Rangers (1-2) fell in the first set 17-25. The Vikings had a strong lead in the second set 18-11 when Parkside went on a 5-1 run led by
Lexi Turek with 2 kills, a block, and an assist. Augustana was still able to close out the set 25-19, but the Rangers had momentum that would carry over to the third set.Â

In the third, the Green and White started off the set with a 7-2 run, including a five serve run from Turek. The five point lead was the largest of the match as the Vikings fought back to keep the set close. Augustana had a match point 26-25, but Parkside closed out the match with three straight points for the 28-26 win. It was all Rangers in the fourth set after the score was tied 7-7, Parkside went on a 14-2 run on the way to a 25-12 victory to bring the match even at two sets each. The fifth and final set was close until the Vikings strung together a 5-1 run taking a three point lead and eventually winning the match 15-12.

Annie Leo led the team defensively with 29 digs, and
Elizabeth Mavis led with 7 blocks.Â
Lauren Hickson had 16 digs and a team leading 44 assists.Â
Rebecca Roembke contributed with 11 digs and a team high 16 kills.

In the late match, UW-Parkside had trouble with Central Washington (0-2) in the first set, dropping the opener 17-25. The Rangers took an early lead in the second set, but the Wildcats kept pace, never trailing by more than three.Â
Lexi Calloway had the kill to close out the second set with an assist from Hickson. The third set was highlighted by a 4-0 Ranger run midway through giving Parkside a 16-12 lead, and finished with a 4-1 run to take the set 25-21. The momentum kept changing hands in the fourth set where both teams went on runs, including five straight serves from
Lexi Turek. The Rangers closed out the match with another set ending kill from Calloway, defeating the Wildcats 25-22.

In the nightcap,
Rebecca Roembke led the way with 20 kills, while
Lauren Hickson had 43 assists and 2 aces.Â
Annie Leo led the back row with 21 digs.

The Rangers are scheduled for one more match at the Flyer Festival in Romeoville, IL against Southwest Minnesota State University at 5pm.
