SOMERS, Wis. -- After earning a much needed victory against Missouri S&T, the Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team will seek to carry that momentum forward into matches against Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis this weekend in DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Rangers will host Maryville on Friday (Sept. 23) at 7 p.m., and will conclude their homestand with a match against Missouri-St. Louis (Sept. 24) at 3 p.m.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which is 2-9 overall and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, notched its first conference win of the season against Missouri S&T and brought a halt to a seven-match losing streak in the process. The Rangers got an oustanding performance from freshmen
Leah Fenske in the victory over the Miners. She nearly recorded a triple-double as she finished the match with 15 kills, 12 digs and nine blocks.
Kasey Davis continued her recent hot streak as she tied for the team lead with 15 kills, while
Rebecca Roembke had 11 kills and 12 digs and setter
Lauren Hickson added 44 assists and 10 digs.
The Rangers feature a balanced offensive attack as five players are currently averaging over 2.00 kills per set. Roembke leads the team averaging 2.38, while
Lexi Turek (2.24), Fenske (2.10),
Katie Adams (2.03) and Davis (2.00) all are above the 2.00 average.
Elizabeth Mavis leads UWP averaging 0.88 blocks per set, while Turek averages 0.76 blocks per set. Freshman
Annie Leo paces the Rangers in digs averaging 4.43 per set and Hickson is second on the team averaging 2.43 per set.
Hickson averages 9.38 assists per set in directing the Wisconsin-Parkside offense.
Maryville enters the contest with a 2-9 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the GLVC, while Missouri-St. Louis currently sits atop the West Division standings with a 2-0 conference record and an overall record of 7-2.
