LIBERTY, Mo. --
Antonio Gonzalez scored on a penalty kick, but William Jewel pulled away from Wisconsin-Parkside with two second-period goals on its way to a 4-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Rangers on Sunday at Greene Stadium.
William Jewel, which improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Gonzalez then brought the Rangers to within one of the lead when he converted a penalty kick at the 55:56 mark of the second period.
William Jewel answered 2:22 later when Charlie Parrish scored pushing the lead to 3-1.
The Cardinals then tallied another marker at the 59:48 mark to extend the lead to 4-1.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in league play, finished with eight shots including six in the second period. Gonzalez and
Burim Husseini paced the Rangers with two shots each, while
Brandon Henderson,
Abraham Kanneh,
Leki Prpa and
Reyes Perez also tallied shots.
Remi Bibal went the distance in goal for the Rangers and made five saves in his 90 minutes of action.
Wisconsin-Parkside returns home on Friday (Sept. 16) when it hosts Missouri S&T in a GLVC match at 12 p.m. at the Wood Road Soccer Field.
