Volleyball Swept at Home

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 10, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad was swept 3-0 by University of Minnesota Duluth (25-13, 25-12, 25-22) and St. Cloud State University (25-17, 25-22, 25-22) in the second day of the UW-Parkside Volleyball Tournament inside the DeSimone Gymnasium.
 
The Rangers (1-7) took an early lead in the opening set 8-6, but the undefeated Bulldogs (7-0) got the momentum back with an 11-1 run, and eventually closing out the set 25-13. UMD controlled the second set with a 23-12 victory. UWP battled back in the third set trading leads with Duluth for the first half of the set. The Bulldogs finished out the set on their third match point 25-22.
 
Lauren Hickson was the team leader with 26 assists. Defensively, Annie Leo led the Rangers with 12 digs. Kasey Davis drove down 7 kills, a team high in the opening match.
 
In the nightcap, Lexi Turek helped the Rangers to an early lead with a kill followed by a service ace. The Huskies (4-4) took the lead back and piled on with a 10-1 run. Turek again gave the team a spark with a kill followed by four straight serves including her second ace of the set, but that still was not enough to catch St. Cloud. The Huskies went on to win the opening set 25-17. With the score tied 19-19 in the second set, Katie Adams had the kill that gave Parkside the lead back late in the set. St. Cloud pushed back with a 6-1 run to close out the second set 25-22. The Rangers found themselves trailing in the third set 12-17, when Lauren Hickson served five straight with kills from Katie Adams and Kasey Davis. Parkside would tie the match at 22-22, but St. Cloud took the final three points in the match winning 25-22.
 
Kasey Davis led the Rangers in kills for the second straight match with 13 against the Huskies. Lexi Turek had 10 kills of her own, and a team high in blocks (4) and aces (2). Lauren Hickson topped of the Rangers with 31 assists and Annie Leo was the team leader in digs with 15.
 
The Rangers hit the road next week starting off with a non-conference affair at Olivet Nazarene University on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7pm.
