SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 1, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer program opened their 2016 season with a hard fought loss 1-0 to the visiting University of Minnesota Duluth at Wood Road Field.
The Rangers (0-1) started off the game with a strong offense including shots from
Jillian Hetfleisch and
Chloe Couves. The Bulldogs (1-0) returned the favor peppering the goal box with seven corner kicks in the first half. It was on the seventh chance that Duluth was able to find the back of the net with a rebound shot, after the defense blocked the first attempt within a few feet of the goal.
In the second half, Parkside made a number of runs to try and manufacture a game tying goal. The Rangers took six shots in the second half and had two corner kicks. The last corner kick, with only two minutes on the clock, resulted in a flurry of action in front of the net, but the ball never made it past the defense of UMD.
Jillian Hetfleisch led the team with 3 shots and two were on goal, and
Vianey Hernandez had two shots with one on net.
The Rangers return to the pitch on campus this Sunday, Sept. 4 with a non-conference contest against Minnesota State University-Mankato at 2:30pm.
