SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 1, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer squad stood up to eighth-ranked Minnesota State University Mankato by holding them scoreless in a 0-0 tie in a non-conference contest at Wood Road Field.

The Mavericks (0-0-1) are ranked eighth in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for their 2016 preseason poll.  Mankato played an aggressive game through all four periods of the match.  One of the Mavericks many fouls, lead to the Rangers' (0-1-1) first shot on goal only two minutes into game.  Taylor Schiffer-Jander took a free kick from 30 yards out and hooked it over the defensive wall, but the shot bounced to the goalkeeper as she gobbled up the save.

With the wind to their backs in the second half, Mankato pressed the Parkside defense throughout most of the period.  Ranger goalkeeper, Adrianna Bratel turned away three shots on goal in the second half, but none greater than one with ten minutes remaining in regulation.  The Mavericks drove the length of the field that finished with a through pass on the right side of the goal, and the forward was one-on-one with Bratel.  Adrianna made a diving save on a shot that was less than 10 meters away.

All tied after 90 minutes, both teams had to fight for 20 more, but neither team found the back of the net.  The final stats favored Mankato with 12 shots to Parkside's 11, but the Rangers had more shots on goal with 6 to the Mavericks' 5.

Lauren Bialas led the team with 2 shots on goal, and Adrianna Bratel finished with 5 saves.

The Rangers return to action on Friday, Sept. 9 for their first Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup against Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO at 5pm.
