Prairie Stars Sweep Rangers on Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Apr. 3, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad suffered a razor thin 3-2 setback in the opener before falling 7-0 in game two on Sunday against Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Illinois Springfield at the Land of Lincoln Complex.
 
In the opener, the host Prairie Stars (14-22, 6-12 GLVC) pushed across the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the sixth with Molly Manietta belting a one-out double to bring in Amanda Gosbeth.
 
Illinois Springfield struck first in game one, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second before the Rangers (4-29, 1-16 GLVC) answered with two of their own in the top of the fourth inning.
 
Sam Magruder provided the fireworks for the Rangers in the fourth, belting a two-out single to score Morgan Sikon and Courtney Ellingson.
 
Bridget Jost suffered the loss inside the circle, allowing one earned run and striking out four in three innings of effort while UIS's Alexandria Smith notched the complete game win, striking out four and allowing just three hits.
 
In game two, UIS scored five runs in a two-inning span to come away with the 7-0 win to secure the sweep. The Prairie Stars plated single runs in the first and third innings before adding three in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
 
Six Rangers finished the game with a base hit with Carly Dundee leading the way going two-for-four at the plate.
 
Amber Ramos was hit with the loss despite striking out 12 in five innings of action. Her counterpart, Jaycee Craver, collected the complete game shutout, striking out 11 and scattering seven hits.
 
The Rangers are back on the diamond on Wednesday, resuming their halted game against Lewis University at 3 p.m.
