SOMERS, Wis. (Apr. 17, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team wrapped up its weekend series against 19th-ranked University of Indianapolis with a doubleheader split on Sunday afternoon, blanking the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rivals 3-0 in the opener before falling 9-6 in the nightcap at Oberbruner Field.

The host Rangers (6-25, 2-14 GLVC) jumped out to an early 2-0 edge in the opener, with DJ Peltz hitting a single to center field to score Kyohei Makita and Zach Thompson. UW-Parkside padded its lead with an insurance run in the third inning with a Makita sacrifice bunt bringing in Troy Bittenbender.

Tyler Jandron went the distance on the mound, striking out five and allowing just two hits to claim the shutout win. UIndy's Connor Mailloux was hit with the loss, allowing two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of work.

UW-Parkside seized another early lead in game two but a five-run sixth inning ultimately derailed the hosts in its attempt to sweep the nationally-ranked Greyhounds (25-10, 11-5 GLVC).

Nick Janssen doubled in the opening two runs in the first inning while the Hounds answered with an unearned run in the top of the second. UIndy tied the game at two in the top of the fourth but a Zach Thompson three-run blast in the bottom of the fourth gave Parkside the 5-2 edge.

Indianapolis seized the lead in the sixth inning, scoring five runs to take the 7-5 lead. UW-Parkside closed the gap to a run in the bottom of the sixth with a Thompson groundout scoring Bittenbender but the Greyhounds pushed across two more scores in the ninth and held on for the win.

UW-Parkside outhit the Hound 9-8 in game two with Bittenbender finishing four-for-five at the dish while scoring three runs.

Connor Cunningham was saddled with the defeat, striking out four and allowing just one earned run in 7 1/3 innings of work. UIndy's Dylan Strutsman tallied the win, striking out three and allowing three hits over the final five innings.

Parkside returns to the diamond on Friday, hitting the road to face Robert Morris University-Springfield in a non-conference doubleheader.
