SOMERS, Wis. (Mar. 20, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad wrapped up its weekend homestand on Sunday, suffering a pair of setbacks to Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Truman State University. The Rangers fell 12-5 in the opener before suffering a 7-4 setback in the game two at the Case Complex.

The visiting Bulldogs (15-7, 7-1 GLVC) delivered the opening blow in game one, pushing across three runs in the second inning while tacking on another in the third for the 4-0 lead. The Rangers (3-21, 0-8 GLVC) tied the contest in the bottom of the fifth with pinch hitter Jordan Nichols belting a two-out grand slam to left field. The bases were juiced for Nichols after Emily Bell was hit by pitch to start the inning while Rachel Seefeldt and Courtney Ellingson both drew walks.

Truman State countered with three more runs in the sixth inning while piling on five more in the seventh for the 12-4 lead. Carly Dundee blasted a solo home run but the Rangers were unable to inflict any more damage, falling 12-5.

Dundee led the Rangers at the plate with a two-for-four effort while Nichols was a perfect one-for-one with four RBIs.

Bridget Jost pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief and absorbed the loss while TSU's Kelsea Dorsey earned the win, fanning 11 in the complete game effort.

In the nightcap, the host Rangers drew first blood, pushing across a run off an Alexis Simone single to right field, plating pinch runner Emily Bell. Truman seized the lead in the top of the third, pushing across four runs but UW-Parkside closed the gap to just a single run after scoring in both the third and fourth innings.

Cassie Walek blasted a solo home run to lead off the third inning while a Simone sacrifice fly plated Kellie Fenza in the fourth inning.

The Bulldogs generated single scores in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to build a 7-3 lead en route to the sweep. Parkside brought in a single run in the seventh with Dundee blasting her second solo home run of the afternoon.

Dundee finished game two three-for-four at the dish while Paige Schmittling and Walek both collecting a pair of hits.

Dundee took the loss inside the circle, pitching all seven innings and striking out three. Her counterpart, Lauren Dale, claimed the complete game victory, notching five strikeouts and allowing four earned runs.

The Rangers return to the diamond on Friday, hitting the road to face GLVC rival Saint Joseph's College at 12 p.m.
