LIBERTY, Mo. (Mar. 18, 2016)-- The first and sixth innings proved costly for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team on Friday afternoon, yielding nine runs across the two frames in an 11-1 setback to William Jewell College in a non-conference showdown at Talley Stadium.

The host Cardinals (11-6) jumped out to an early lead, belting four hits and capitalizing on two errors to seize the early 4-0 advantage after one inning of play.

Bryan Wade got the Rangers (3-6) on the board in the top of the second, hitting a base hit through the right side to score Juan Bowers who led off the frame by drawing a walk. Jewell manufactured a run in the fourth before tacking on five more in the sixth inning for the 10-1 edge. WJC generated another score in the eighth for the final 11-1 margin.

Kyohei Makita collected two of the squad's four hits, concluding the game two-for-four at the plate.

Josh Serio was hit with the loss, striking out five in five innings of work while relievers Tyler Jandron and Matt Skarzynski each pitched an inning of scoreless ball, retiring the side in order in both the sixth and seventh innings. WJC's Austin Kretchmar earned the win, lasting eight innings and striking out three.

The two clubs continue the series on Saturday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
