LIBERTY, Mo. (Mar. 19, 2016)-- A late scoring surge derailed the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team on Saturday afternoon, succumbing 6-3 to host William Jewell College in a non-league clash inside Talley Stadium.

The Rangers (3-7) drew first blood in the second inning, plating a pair of runs. Nick Janssen belted a RBI single to right center field, scoring DJ Peltz who reached base on a walk before Zach Thompson rounded the bases on a Trent Muscat base knock to give visiting UW-Parkside the 2-0 edge.

Janssen was at it again in the seventh inning, hitting a double down the right field line to score Zach Thompson to increase the buffer to three runs. Thompson reached base on a one-out single before advancing into scoring position with a stolen base.

The Cardinals (12-6) narrowed the gap in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a pair to close within a run before exploding for four more in the eighth to seize the lead. Peltz led off the ninth for the Rangers but a fielder's choice, a strikeout and a groundout gave the hosts the win.

Janssen led the Green and White with a three-for-four effort while Thompson scored a pair of runs and netted a pair of hits.

Mario Samuel earned a no decision, tossing the opening seven innings and collecting seven strikeouts. Cody Rolshoven took the loss, pitching the eighth inning in relief. WJC's staff combined for six strikeouts with reliever Dalton Gulick earned the win and Chris Mancha collecting the save.

The Rangers and Cardinals close out their series on Sunday with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
