(Mar. 12, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad dropped both ends of a Great lakes Valley Conference doubleheader to Maryville University on Saturday at the Lou Brock Complex to close out the team's weekend tour of Saint Louis. The Rangers fell 5-4 in the opener before suffering a 7-5 decision in the nightcap.
Â
The host Saints (11-3, 3-1 GLVC) chalked up three runs in the opening inning and one more in the second before the Ranger offense awoke in the third, tying the game with a four-run outburst.
Â
Cassie Walek drew a walk to begin the inning, later scoring on a
Carly Dundee single.
Rachel Seefeldt brought in Dundee with an RBI double before
Courtney Ellingson swapped spots with Seefeldt after hitting a double of her own. Ellingson would later score on a
Caressa DeRossett base hit, tying the score at 4-4.
Â
Maryville responded with a solo homer run in the bottom of the frame in what proved to be the final score of the contest.
Â
Dundee led the Rangers (3-17, 0-4 GLVC) at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort while
Amber Ramos took the loss inside the circle, logging three innings and striking out one.
Â
In game two, the Saints scored four runs in the bottom of the second only to see UW-Parkside tie the game with a four run inning of its own in the top of the third. An error and a double put two on for the Green and White before Ellingson belted a home run, closing the gap to just one run. Later in the frame
Sara Markelonis belted an RBI single, bringing in
Kat Schaefer to tie the game.
Â
Maryville generated single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to come away with the win. Dundee led off the seventh with a double and scored on a Ellingson sacrifice fly and the Rangers had the tying run on deck before a flyout and a groundout ended any hope of a rally.
Â
Dundee was dialed in at the plate, collecting three hits while DeRossett was two-for-two at the dish. Dundee took the loss inside the circle, fanning four batters in the complete game effort.
Â
The Rangers return to the diamond on Saturday with the home opener against Quincy University at the Case Complex.
