SOMERS, Wis. (Feb. 4, 2016)-- It was another heartbreaking Thursday for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team, suffering a 67-64 setback to Great Lakes Valley Conference rival William Jewell College in an interdivisional showdown inside DeSimone Gymnasium. Kristin Conniff finished with 19 points to pace the Rangers in a game with six lead changes and seven ties.
 
A Tara Knapstein jumper with 3:06 left tied the contest at 57 but the visiting Cardinals (10-13, 5-7 GLVC) ripped off the next seven points, securing a 64-57 lead with just 38 seconds left. A Brittney Fair jumper sliced the lead to a single possession with 22 ticks left and a quick steal put the ball back in the Rangers (12-8, 6-6 GLVC) hands with 15.1 seconds left. An errant pass returned the ball to William Jewell and Maddie Nelson hit a pair of free throws to ice the contest with eight seconds left.
 
Neither team led by more than a possession in the opening six minutes of the game before the Rangers closed the period on a 10-2 run, seizing a 19-11 lead after one quarter of action after Conniff collected a steal and hit a long three at the buzzer.
 
UW-Parkside's advantage ballooned to 11 off a Conniff three with 6:31 left before halftime but the Cardinals closed the half on a 15-3 run, taking a 31-30 lead into the locker room after Nelson hit a jumper with two seconds left.
 
Neither team led by more than four in the third period. UW-Parkside led 41-38 with 4:11 to go off a pair of Bailey North free throws but WJC netted the next seven points to take the lead. Jewell never trailed the rest of the way, owning a 46-43 lead heading into the final quarter.
 
Parkside trailed by five with 4:07 left before getting a three and a jumper from Conniff to tie the game with 3:06 left.
 
Conniff buried five treys on the evening, pacing the Rangers with 19 points while Stephanie Furr added 11 with four assists. Jessica Prince was the third UW-Parkside player in double figures, collecting 10 points and nine boards.
 
Madison Campbell led Jewell with 21 points while Nelson added 18 points, seven boards, and seven assists.
 
UW-Parkside held a commanding edge on the glass, owning a 39-26 rebounding advantage, including a 19-6 edge on the offensive end.
 
It was the fourth consecutive Thursday heartbreaker for the Rangers who have dropped the past three contests by a combined six points.
 
The Rangers close out their homestand on Saturday, hosting Rockhurst University at 1 p.m.
