ROSEMONT, Ill. (Feb. 27, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad absorbed a pair of heartbreaking setbacks on Saturday inside the Rosemont Dome, falling 4-2 to Ashland University to open the day before getting edged 7-6 to Grand Valley State University in the nightcap.

Against the Eagles (3-1), the contest was scoreless through the first three frames before Ashland tallied a run in the fourth, a pair in the fifth, and an insurance run in the sixth for the two-score win.

In game two, UW-Parkside (3-12) plated a trio of runs in the first inning but surrendered the lead in the third after the Lakers (3-0) pushed across a half dozen runs.

Raegan Fingerman started the scoring in the first, belting a double to right center field to bring in Carly Dundee and Madison Manders while  Cassie Walek two bagger plated Fingerman for the 3-0 edge.

GVSU (3-0) tallied an insurance run in the fourth, extending its buffer to 7-3. The Rangers battled back, collecting a run in the fifth and two in the sixth off a Dundee single but it proved too little too late in the one-run setback.

Dundee led the Ranger offense, going two-for-three at the dish with two RBIs while Manders scored a pair of runs.

Bridget Jost suffered the loss, striking out two in three innings of work while Ellie Balbach tallied the win, allowing four earned runs in fifth innings while Sara Andrasik closed out the final two frames to notch the save.

Parkside is back on the diamond tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., facing regional power Wayne State University.
