(Feb. 20, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad opened the fourth-annual NSU Softball Festival with a split on Saturday, suffering an agonizing, 7-6, 10 inning setback to Rogers State University before downing Lindenwood University 4-1 to finish off the afternoon.

Against Rogers State (4-7), international tie-breaker rules went into effect in the 10th inning with a Katlin Alexander double down the right field line pushing across the winning score to lead off the bottom of the 10th and give the Hillcats the extra inning win.

UW-Parkside (1-5) struck first against Rogers State, plating a pair of runs in the top of the third before the Hillcats poured on six in the bottom of the third to seize the lead.

Rogers State cranked out six runs on just four hits in the third, including a three-run home run from Alexander. The Rangers tied the game with a four-run outburst in the sixth with the game going to extra innings after neither squad was able to manufacture a score in the seventh.

Emily Bell and Seefeldt each singled in a run in the sixth while
Danica Bramschreiber singled through the middle to notch a pair of runs.

After scoreless eighth and ninth innings, international rules went into effect with each team beginning the 10th with no outs and a runner at second base.

Parkside finished with 11 hits in the game with Bell leading the way with a three-for-five effort.

Carly Dundee was saddled with the loss, pitching all nine innings and striking out seven while issuing no walks. RSU's Rachel Jones earned the win, striking out three and allowing one earned run in seven innings of work.

Against Lindenwood (2-4), a three-run outburst in the fifth inning proved to be enough to emerge with the win. The Rangers opened the scoring in the fourth with Seefeldt reaching base on a triple to right field before scoring on a wild pitch. The Lions answered with a run of their own in the fourth before Parkside got RBI singles from Manders and Bell along with a sac fly from Dundee in the fifth to take the lead for good en route to the squad's first victory of the young 2016 campaign.

Bridget Jost collected her first win as a Ranger, striking out two in four inning of action while
Amber Ramos and
Katie Kovets cobbled together three innings of scoreless relief with Kovets earning the save. LU's Bethany Fountain suffered the loss, yielding four runs in five inning of work.

UW-Parkside returns to the diamond tomorrow, facing Midwestern State University at 9 a.m. and host Northeastern State University at 2 p.m.
