SAINT CLOUD, Minn. (Feb. 12, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Friday night to open the 2016 campaign, suffering a 9-1 setback to the University of Sioux Falls in the opener before getting edged 2-1 in the nightcap inside the Husky Dome.

In game one, the Cougars (2-0) scored runs in bunches, pushing across three in the first inning and six more in the fourth. The Rangers (0-2) got on the board in the fifth inning. Samantha Magruder drew a walk to start the frame, advancing to third on a Paige Schmittling infield single and finally scoring on a wild pitch.

Bridget Jost absorbed the loss inside the circle, pitching the opening 3 1/3 innings and striking out three. Sioux Falls' Breana Black struck out one and issued four walks in the one-hitter to earn the win.

In game two, Sioux Falls utilized a sacrifice fly to grab the 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Cougars added to their lead with another run in the fourth before the Rangers sliced the deficit to just one after Sara Markelonis scored in the fifth inning. Markelonis belted a one-out double to center field before scoring on a USF fielding error to close the gap to 2-1.
