KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Feb. 11, 2016)-- A barrage of threes midway through the third quarter sabotaged the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday night as host Truman State University came away with the 65-56 victory in a Great Lakes Valley Conference women's basketball clash inside Pershing Arena.

The opening 25 minutes of the game saw eight lead changes and two ties as neither squad was able to assert its will on the other. That changed with 4:15 left in the third, with the host Bulldogs (17-7, 11-3 GLVC) uncorking a 12-0 run, turning a slim one possession lead into a 14-point cushion. Back-to-back-to-back treys sparked the scoring spree with Rachel Steinhoff hitting the first two to ignite the spurt.

UW-Parkside (13-9, 7-7 GLVC) rattled off the next nine, with six coming off the hands of Brittney Fair to pull within five with 7:53 left but the visitors were unable to come any closer as the Bulldogs held on for the nine-point win, sending the Green and White their fifth straight Thursday setback.

Four of the opening five points went to UW-Parkside who built a five-point lead with 1:23 left in the opening quarter on a Fair jumper, and led 14-12 after 10 minutes of action. A Stephanie Furr layup put the Rangers back up five in the second quarter but TSU crawled back, scoring the final five points of the half to take a 26-23 into intermission.

UW-Parkside went almost five minutes without a field goal in the third period, falling behind by six before closing within two with 4:40 remaining after Kauri Jensen converted a three the old fashioned way, hitting a layup and a free throw. TSU answered over the next two minutes with a 12-0 spurt to take control of the game.

Furr headlined the night for the Rangers, piling on 20 points with seven rebounds and three steals while Fair came off the bench and chipped in 19. Kristin Conniff had seven while Jessica Prince wrangled six rebounds.

Cassidy Clark came off the bench and powered the Bulldogs, ending the night with 17 points, hitting eight of her nine shots from the floor. Courtney Straight had 11 points and a game-best 10 rebounds while Rachel Steinhoff added 11 points.

UW-Parkside was outrebounded by a 40-26 margin while TSU also held a 32-16 edge in points in the paint. The Rangers shot just 31.6 percent (18-for-57) from the field including an uncharacteristic 17.4 percent (four-for-23) from three-point range.

The Rangers are back in action on Saturday afternoon, closing interdivisional play against nationally-ranked Quincy University. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
