Hot-Shooting Rangers Roll to Sixth Straight Victory

SOMERS, Wis. -- Senior Alexander Brown led five players in double figures with 18 points and junior Kendale McCullum posted a double-double as Wisconsin-Parkside rolled to its sixth-straight victory with a 98-75 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Saint Joseph's on Saturday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC, rode its best shooting performance of the season to the win. The Rangers shot a season-high 66.1 percent from the floor, which included making 11-of-16 three-point attempts, and also shot 92.9 percent from the free throw line.

Brown was 6-of-8 from the floor to lead the Rangers, while McCullum finished with 15 points and 11 assists. Goran Zagorac added 15 points and five rebounds, while Jake Verhagen had 11 points and Adam Bonk finished with 10 points.

Saint Joseph's, which dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play, was led by Kindred Williams who scored 13 points. Isaiah Carpenter scored 12 points for the Pumas, while Eric Gillespie and Davious Webster each scored 11 points.

Wisconsin-Parkside opened the game on a 15-2 run sparked by a pair of three-pointers from Verhagen and capped by a three-pointer from Bonk.

Saint Joseph's cut the lead to 18-8 on a layup by Chris Nunn, but a dunk by Kyle Flanagan started a 6-0 run that pushed the lead to 24-8 with 9:43 to play in the first half.

Wisconsin-Parkside led by as much as 16 points on five occasions in the first half, but the Pumas used a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 39-30 with 3:00 to play in the opening half.

Layups by McCullum and Brown upped the lead to 43-30, but Webster connected on a three-pointer to trim the lead to 43-33 with 1:03 to play in the first.

Espen Fjaerstad upped the lead back to 13 points with a three-pointer of his own, but Nick Jeffirst scored on a dunk to cut the Rangers lead to 46-35 at the intermission.

A three-pointer by Flanagan and a layup by Zagorac gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 55-39 lead with 16:42 remaining in the game.

Saint Joseph's trimmed the lead to 66-56 on a four-point play by Webster, but McCullum connected on a three-pointer which ignited a 10-1 run that pushed the Rangers lead to 76-57 with 8:28 to play in the game.

Wisconsin-Parkside took its largest lead of the game at 98-72 on a free throw by Cody McIntyre with 35 seconds left in the game.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 6) when it hosts Saint Xavier at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game in DeSimone Gymnasium.
