SOMERS, Wis. -- The Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team will host Grand Valley State on Saturday (Dec. 31) in a New Year's Eve contest slated for a 1 p.m. start in DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Rangers, who dropped their first seven games of the season, have won two of their last three contests. Wisconsin-Parkside routed Trinity Christian 83-39 on Dec. 8 and also posted a dominating 74-33 victory over Indiana Northwest on Dec. 19.
In the last three games, which also included a 74-62 loss at Lewis, the Rangers are averaging 73.0 points per game and are averaging 19.3 assists per contest.
Shelby Cheston is the leading scorer in the last three games averaging 10.7 points, while
Asiah Lawson is averaging 8.7 points.
Overall,
Brittney Fair is the Rangers leading scorer averaging 11.8 points per game, while
Olivia Montague is averaging 6.3 points per contest. Cheston is the top rebounder for Wisconsin-Parkside with a 5.1 per game average, while
Kauri Jensen averages 4.8 rebounds per outing.
Sophomore
Taylor Stephen leads the team with 29 assists, while Fair has 28 and
Blair Arthur has 23 assists.
The Rangers will face a stiff challenge in their final non-conference game of the season as the Lakers enter the game ranked 21st in the nation. Grand Valley State has an 8-3 overall record, but has dropped two of its last four games. Bailey Cairnduff is the Lakers leading scorer averaging 11.5 points per game, while Kayla Dawson averages 10.5 points per contest.
The Rangers and Lakers have two common opponents this season in Hillsdale and Indianapolis. Both teams lost to Hillsdale, while Grand Valley State topped Indianapolis 53-47 and the Rangers dropped a 70-57 decision to the Greyhounds.
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series 7-3, but the Rangers won the last meeting between the two teams 73-60 on Nov. 26, 2011.
