Rangers Cruise to 10th-Straight Victory Behind Brown

SOMERS, Wis. -- Senior Alexander Brown scored a career-high 27 points and Wisconsin-Parkside rolled to its 10th-straight victory with a 117-83 non-conference win over Indiana Northwest on Thursday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers registered season highs in points scored, field goals made, three-pointers, assists and blocked shots in the lopsided win. The 117 points represented the highest point total since Wisconsin-Parkside scored 122 points against Indiana Dabney on Nov. 13, 2012.

Brown finished the game 8-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the three-point line to eclipse his previous career high of 23 points scored last season against Silver Lake and earlier this season at Ferris State.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 10-1 on the season, placed six players in double figures in scoring led by Brown. Junior Kendale McCullum had another outstanding all-around game as he finished with 17 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals.

The Rangers also received 14 points from senior Jake Verhagen, while Adam Bonk was 4-of-4 from the three-point line and scored 12 points. Chavares Flanigan added 11 points and Kyle Flanagan had 10 points and five rebounds. Goran Zagorac added a game-high seven rebounds and chipped in with four points for the Rangers.

Wisconsin-Parkside shot a blistering 60.3 percent from the floor, which included making 56.3 percent of its three-point attempts.

Indiana Northwest was led by Jovan Jackson who had 15 points. Rashad Richardson had 13 points, while Ronald Alexander, Darrius Davis and Austin Williams each scored 11 points for the RedHawks.

After Richardson gave the RedHawks a 3-2 lead with a three-pointer, Wisconsin-Parkside responded with a 23-5 run to take early command of the game.

Brown started the run with a three-pointer, and a basket by Flanagan followed by three-pointers by Verhagen and Brown gave the Rangers a 13-3 lead with 16:45 to play in the opening half.

After John Mosser cut the lead to 15-8 with a layup, Verghagen sparked a 10-0 spurt with a three-pointer. McCullum followed with a three-point play, and Flanigan added back-to-back baskets to increase the lead to 25-8 with 14:12 to play in the game.

The Rangers built the lead to as many as 28 points in the first half. A layup by Flanigan gave UWP a 52-24 lead with 7:05 remaining in the period and two free throws by Bret Barclay gave the Rangers a 60-32 lead at the 4:34 mark of the first half.

Indiana Northwest closed the first half on a 12-5 run to trim the lead to 65-44 at the break.

After a basket by JJ Pennington cut the UWP lead to 73-50 at the 17:10 mark of the second period, the Rangers used a 19-2 run to put the game away.

Bonk highlighted the Ranger outburst by burying three three-point baskets and Flanigan capped the run with a layup that gave Wisconsin-Parkside a 92-52 lead with 12:34 remaining in the game.

The Rangers reached the 100-point plateau on a three-pointer by Verhagen and took their largest lead of the game at 105-61 on a three-pointer by Barclay.

Wisconsin-Parkside resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Jan. 5 when it visits Drury at 7:45 p.m.
