Flanigan Leads Rangers to Eighth-Straight Victory

SOMERS, Wis. -- Junior Chavares Flanigan scored a career-high 19 points and Wisconsin-Parkside stretched its current winning streak to eight straight as the Rangers topped Robert Morris-Peoria 94-77 in non-conference action on Saturday in DeSimone Gymnasium.

Flanigan had a perfect shooting night in besting his previous career high of 15 points. He finished the game 6-of-6 from the floor, which included making all four of his three-point attempts, and was 3-of-3 from the free throw line. He also added four rebounds and four assists for the Rangers.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 8-1 overall on the season, shot 57.6 percent from the floor and 56.5 percent from the three-point line in the victory. The Rangers continued their recent hot-shooting streak as Wisconsin-Parkside has shot 60.3 percent from the floor and 60.4 percent from the three-point line in the last three games.

The Rangers, who remained undefeated at home at 6-0, took advantage of 18 Robert Morris-Peooria turnovers by converting those into 24 points. Wisconsin-Parkside also owned a 41-31 advantage on the glass against the smaller Eagles.

Five Rangers reached double figures led by Flanigan. Jake Verhagen finished with 14 points, while Alexander Brown scored 12 points and handed out six assists. Goran Zagorac added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Joe Borcia had 10 points and five boards.

Robert Morris-Peoria, which played the game as an exhibition, was led by Jake Stephens who scored a game-high 24 points. Jamor Stewart added 12 points and Dominique Brize finished with 10 points.

The Rangers held an 18-13 first half lead following a layup by the Eagles Reginald Davis, but UWP responded with a 7-0 run.

Zagorac and Kendale McCullum each converted layups and Linwood Lee capped the run with a three-pointer giving the Rangers a 25-13 lead with 9:34 to play in the opening half.

A three-point play by Davis helped Robert Morris-Peoria trim the lead to 27-21 at the 7:32 mark of the first half.

A 6-0 run by the Rangers, highlighted by back-to-back layups from Flanigan, upped the Wisconsin-Parkside lead to 33-21 with 6:02 to play before halftime.

Wisconsin-Parkside took its largest lead of the first half at 41-27 when Espen Fjaerstad drilled a three-pointer with 1:53 to play in the opening period.

Robert Morris-Peoria closed the half on a 6-2 run to trim the Rangers lead to 43-34 at the intermission.

A 13-1 run to open the second half broke the game open for the Rangers as Flanigan sparked the outburst. He drilled a three-pointer to open the second period and, following an exchange of free throws, converted a three-point play and then connected on another three-pointer to give the Rangers a 15-point lead. Brown capped the Rangers outburst with a three-pointer that upped the lead to 56-35 with 14:59 to play in the second period.

The Eagles whittled the lead down to 64-51 at the 11:15 mark of the second period, but the Rangers put together an 11-4 run to stretch the lead to 75-55 with 6:59 to play in the game.

Wisconsin-Parkside took its largest lead of the game at 87-61 on a tip-in by Zagorac with 3:55 to play in the game.

Wisconsin-Parkside will take an eight-day layoff for final exams before returning to the court on Dec. 19 at Minnesota Duluth.
