SOMERS, Wis. – Senior
Brittney Fair scored a season-high 17 points, but Indianapolis used a 14-0 run to open the third quarter to pull away from the Rangers on its way to a 70-57 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both schools on Thursday in DeSimone Gymnasium.
Sydney Brackemyre connected on a three-pointer to end the first half giving the Greyhounds a 31-29 lead at halftime. Indianapolis, which improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in GLVC play, then opened the third quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 42-29 lead with 6:36 to play in the quarter.
The Greyhounds pushed the lead to 46-31 on a three-pointer by Taylor Foster with 5:26 remaining in the third quarter.
A jumper and a free throw by
Taylor Stephen trimmed the lead to 46-34 with 4:17 left in the third, but Brackemyre pushed the lead back to 14 points with a pair of free throws.
Fair closed the quarter with two free throws and a three-pointer to cut the lead to 48-39 after three quarters.
Another three-pointer by Fair trimmed the lead to 52-44 with 8:23 remaining in the game.
The Greyhounds upped the lead to 54-44 with two free throws by Nicole Anderson, but Fair answered with a jumper to bring the Rangers to within 54-46 at the 7:36 mark of the fourth quarter.
Indianapolis used a 7-0 run, which included five points from Anderson, to increase the lead to 61-46 with 3:48 remaining in the game.
The Greyhounds took their largest lead of the game at 64-48 on a free throw by Anderson with 2:26 to play in the contest.
Indianapolis shot just 41.1 percent from the floor for the game, but held Wisconsin-Parkside to 31.1 percent shooting.
Fair finished the game 5-of-17 from the floor and 4-of-8 from the three-point line to lead the Rangers. Stephen finished with 11 points and
Asiah Lawson added 11 points off the bench.
Kauri Jensen had eight points and a team-high six rebounds, while
Shelby Cheston finished with six points and five rebounds.
Brackemyre recorded a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Greyhounds. Anderson finished with 15 points and six rebounds for Indianapolis.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, will return to action on Saturday (Dec. 3) when it hosts Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m. in a GLVC game in DeSimone Gymnasium.
