Rangers Drop Knights 3-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 8, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad strung together three straight set wins to sweep Bellarmine University 3-0 (25-20, 29-27, 25-17) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup inside Knights Hall.
 
The Rangers (7-12, 5-4 GLVC) took an early lead in the opening set off of a 6-2 run including two kills from Rebecca Roembke. The Knights (12-6, 3-6 GLVC) followed up with 5-1 run to take an 8-7 lead. UW-Parkside took the lead back with their own 5-1 run with two kills and a service ace from Kasey Davis. The Rangers never gave up the lead down the stretch. Up 21-20, Parkside closed out the match with four straight points, three of which were kills from Roembke.
 
The second set stared off with a slight advantage for the Rangers, but the Knights stayed within striking distance and tied the set at 16-16. The Green and White started off a five point streak with back-to-back block assists from Elizabeth Mavis and Leah Fenske, and Leah added two kills during the point streak. The Rangers held the lead until their first set point at 24-23, but it would take four set points to secure the 29-27 victory.
 
The third and deciding set was all Parkside. The Rangers closed out the match with a 25-17 win, and Lexi Turek was credited with 2 kills, 2 aces, and an assist in the final set.
 
Rebecca Roembke led the team with 14 kills, and Lexi Turek and Leah Fenske each had 10 kills on the match. Lauren Hickson had a team high 37 assists.  Defensively, Annie Leo led with 16 digs and Kasey Davis had 13.
 
The Rangers return to action on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 & 15 for the Mizuno Midwest Crossover tournament in Aurora, Ill.
