RENSSELAER, Ind. -- Sophomore
Lexi Porter scored a pair of goals powering the Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team to a 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Saint Joseph's on Sunday at Minielli Field.
Porter, who leads the Rangers with seven goals, notched her second multiple-goal scoring performance of the season on Sunday. She also scored twice in the Rangers 4-2 victory at William Jewell on Sept. 11.
Porter got Wisconsin-Parkside on the scoreboard early in the first period. She took a long dribble through several defenders and beat Puma goalie Kaitlyn Kosary to the left corner in the seventh minute giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
Porter then extended the lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute. She took a pass from
Abigail Banks and again beat Kosary to the left corner for her second goal of the match. For Banks, it marked her second straight match with an assist after also having a helper in the Rangers 2-0 win against Indianapolis on Friday.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 9-5-2 overall and 9-4-1 in the GLVC, also received a clean sheet from
Adrianna Bratel in goal. She faced 15 shots and made five saves to improve to 6-3-2 overall on the season. Bratel turned in her second straight shutout after also blanking Indianapolis on Friday and has five shutouts for the season.
Porter and
Vianey Hernandez led the Rangers with three shots each, while
Jazmin Castanon, Banks,
Taylor Schiffer-Jander and
Jillian Hetfleisch each recorded two shots.
Lauren Bialas and
Maycee Kroening also fired shots for Wisconsin-Parkside.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which has already clinched a berth in the GLVC Tournament, will conclude the regular season on Wednesday (Oct. 26) when it hosts Lewis at Wood Road Field beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Rangers can finish no worse than sixth in the regular season standings and could move up to the fifth spot with a victory over Lewis and a McKendree loss to Illinois Springfield.
