Seniors Finish Regular Season in Style

SOMERS, Wis. -- Senior Jillian Hetfleisch scored a goal and added an assist leading the Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Lewis in the Rangers Great Lakes Valley Conference  regular season finale on Wednesday at Wood Road Field.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 10-5-2 overall and 10-4-1 in the GLVC, finished the regular season by winning its last four matches and going 6-1-1 in its final eight matches. The Rangers have secured a spot in the GLVC Tournament and will await other conference results to determine its first round opponent in the conference tournament.

Ranger seniors Abigail Banks, Taylor Schiffer-Jander, Vianey Hernandez, Lauren Bialas and Hetfleisch all played their final home match of their careers on Wednesday.

Lewis, which dropped to 8-9-1 overall and 6-8-1 in conference play, took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Jessica Chavez gathered up a rebound of a shot by Kailey Parnello and beat Ranger kepper Kayla Tabalske to the left corner in the 28th minute giving the Flyers the lead.

Sophia Snyder evened the match for the Rangers just before the intermission. She scored her first goal of the season from the top of the box in the 43rd minute to tie the score at 1-1.

Wisconsin-Parkside took control of the match with a pair of goals late in the second period.

Taylor Burek netted her second goal of the season when she drilled home a shot to the right corner of the net following a shot by Hetfleisch in the 71st minute giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

Hetfleisch extended the lead to 3-1 five minutes later. She took a pass from Hernandez and dribbled to 25 yards out and beat Flyer keeper Jennifer Meyer to the left corner in the 77th minute.

Maycee Kroening finished the scoring for the Rangers when she tallied her first goal of the season in the 84th minute. She took a pass from Chloe Couves and lofted the ball past the keeper to push the margin to 4-1.

Tabalske made six saves in goal for Wisconsin-Parkside to pick up the victory and improve to 2-0 on the season.
