RENSSELAER, Ind. -- Freshman
Leki Prpa scored a pair of goals, but the Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team lost to Saint Joseph's 4-3 in overtime in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Minielli Field on Sunday.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which dropped to 5-8-3 overall and 3-8-3 in conference play, used a late goal to force overtime.
Abraham Kanneh scored with 1:28 remaining in regulation when he took a feed from
Burim Husseini and beat Puma keeper Adam Whybrow to tie the score at 3-3 and force the extra period.
Saint Joseph's, which improved to 2-14 overall and 2-12 in the GLVC, got the game-winning goal 5:43 into the overtime period when Peter Munro found the back of the net after a pass from Kiaran Maule.
Prpa kept the Rangers in the match with a pair of goals, both of which came on penalty kicks. It marked the first career multiple-goal match for the Wind Lake Wis., native.
Saint Joseph's took a 1-0 lead at the 14:59 mark of the first period when Diego Coy Caicedo beat UW-Parkside keeper
Remi Bibal to the left corner of the net.
Prpa answered for the Rangers when he converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute to knot the score at 1-1 and send the teams to the intermission deadlocked.
The Pumas regained the lead in the 61st minute when Lewis Murray connected on a bicycle kick for a 2-1 lead.
It took only 57 seconds for the Rangers to answer as Prpa scored his second penalty kick goal at the 62:26 mark of the second period.
The lead exchanged hands again when Callum Olpin scored in the 72nd minute to put the Pumas back in front 3-2.
Kanneh had an answer for the Rangers, but Wisconsin-Parkside suffered its first overtime loss of the season when Munro scored for the Pumas in overtime.
Bibal and
Nate Kitchell split time in goal for the Rangers and each made one save on the afternoon.
Antonio Gonzalez led the Rangers with four shots, while Prpa, Husseini and Kanneh each had three shots.
Vic Vera put two shots on net, while
Ben Kosmider,
Austin Stariha and
Reyes Perez each had one shot.
Wisconsin-Parkside will close out the 2016 season on Wednesday (Oct. 26) when it hosts Lewis in a GLVC match beginning at 12 p.m. at Wood Road Field.
