Rangers Close Season with Victory over Lewis

SOMERS, Wis. -- Freshman Leki Prpa tallied two goals and added an assist leading the Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team to a 4-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Lewis in the Rangers final match of the 2016 season on Wednesday at Wood Road Field.

Prpa ended the season as the Rangers (6-8-3, 4-8-3 GLVC)  leading goal scorer with six by virtue of his four goals scored in the last two matches of the season. He scored a pair of goals in the Rangers 4-3 loss to Saint Joseph's on Sunday and added two more in Wednesday's victory over the Flyers.

Antonio Gonzalez, who was playing his final match in a Ranger uniform, got Wisconsin-Parkside on the scoreboard early in the first period. He took a pass from Prpa and beat Flyer goalie Philip Huang to the right corner in the fourth minute to put the Rangers up 1-0.

Prpa then increased the lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute when he scored unassisted from 10 yards out for his first goal of the match.

The Flyers, who dropped to 6-11 overall and 5-10 in the GLVC, got on the board late in the first period. Claude Kameni took passes from John Horstman and Nico Mueller and beat Ranger keeper Remi Bibal to the left corner with 40 seconds to play in the opening period.

Lewis nearly evened the score seconds later when Horstman rattled a shot off the crossbar, but the Rangers took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

Prpa gave the Rangers some breathing room in the 51st minute when he scored his second goal of the match off a pass from Brandon Henderson to up the margin to 3-1.

Max Matlawski scored his first goal of the season in the 81st minute when he hammered home a deflected ball to increase the Wisconsin-Parkside lead to 4-1.

Horstman scored an unassisted goal in the 88th minute for the Flyers to trim the lead to 4-2.

Bibal picked up the win in goal for the Rangers as he played the first 45 minutes and made three saves. Nate Kitchell played the second period for the Rangers and made one save.

Gonzalez, Bibal, Ryan Shogren and Ben Kosmider all played in their final matches in a Wisconsin-Parkside uniform on Wednesday.
