Rangers Notch Third Straight Victory

SOMERS, Wis. -- Vic Vera and Leki Prpa each scored goals and Nate Kitchell posted his second consecutive shutout leading the Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team to a 3-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over McKendree on Sunday at Wood Road Field marking the Rangers third straight victory.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which improved to 5-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play, has clawed its way back into postseason consideration with its three straight wins. The top eight teams qualify for the GLVC Tournament and the Rangers are currently in ninth place in the standings and trail Quincy by one half game.

The Rangers took advantage of an early break to get on the scoreboard. Brandon Henderson drove a ball into the box from midfield and Abdoulaye Bah headed the ball into the McKendree net for an own goal at the 17:43 mark of the first period.

Prpa extended the lead to 2-0 in the 35th minutes when he picked up a loose ball in the box and beat Eddie Starr for his second goal of the season.

Vera later scored his first marker of the season when he took a beautiful feed from Antonio Gonzalez and beat Starr to up the lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute.

Kitchell, who improved to 4-0 on the season, made four saves in goal for the Rangers. Kitchell has allowed just one goal in his last 270 minutes of action.

Wisconsin-Parkside will attempt to extend its winning streak to four straight matches when it visits Maryville for a GLVC match on Friday (Oct. 7) at 1 p.m.
