Porter Scores Game Winner in Overtime

SOMERS, Wis. -- Sophomore Lexi Porter scored 1:49 into overtime lifting the Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team to a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Quincy on Sunday at Wood Road Field.

The game-winning goal by Porter capped a comeback by the Rangers that saw them get a late goal to even the match and force overtime.

Sophia Snyder set up the winning goal as she carried the ball through the middle of the field and hit Porter in stride down the right side. Porter allowed the defender to slide past her and she rifled a shot into the back of the net sending the Rangers home winners. It marked the first game-winning goal of the season for Porter who leads Wisconsin-Parkside with five goals on the year.

Lauren Bialas, Porter and Chloe Couves teamed together to get the Rangers back into the match late in the second half. Porter carried the ball down the right side and passed it off to Couves who left it for Bialas at the top of the box in the 77th minute and Bialas beat Megan Swanson to even the match at 1-1.

It had been a frustrating afternoon for the Rangers (7-5-2, 7-4-1 GLVC) as they held a 13-1 advantage in shots in the first period, but could not get one past Swanson.

Quincy, which dropped to 6-6-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the conference, jumped out front on a goal from Natalie Quisenberry. Quisenberry took a feed from Cassidy Foley and lofted a shot on goal from 25 yards out that hit of the far post and trickled behind Adrianna Bratel giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Jillian Hetfleisch took four shots to lead the Rangers, while Porter, Bialas and Vianey Hernandez each finished with three shots. Bratel made three saves on the day, including a pair of saves late in the second half, to earn the victory in goal.

Wisconsin-Parkside finished the match with a 20-6 advantage in shots and held a 9-8 edge in corner kicks.

Wisconsin-Parkside returns to action on Friday (Oct. 21) when it hosts Indianapolis at 2:30 p.m. at Wood Road Field.
