Hickson Leads Rangers to Two Wins at Midwest Crossover

AURORA, Ill. -- Wisconsin-Parkside senior setter Lauren Hickson had 67 assists, 15 digs, 13 kills and three blocks leading the Rangers to victories over Davis & Elkins and Walsh on Saturday on the opening day of the Mizuno Midwest Region Crossover Tournament at the Great Lakes Center.

Wisconsin-Parkside defeated Davis & Elkins 25-20, 25-9, 25-22 and then rallied to defeat Walsh 21-25, 19-25, 25-8, 25-11, 15-9 to go undefeated on day one of the two-day event.

Hickson also reached a personal milestone as she moved into second place in the Wisconsin-Parkside career record book for assists. With her 67 assists, Hickson now has 3,084 career assists which moved her past Natalie Wildes (3,038) into second place all time. Kari Good, who is being inducted into the Wisconsin-Parkside Hall of Fame on Saturday is the school's all-time leader with 5,133 career assists. Hickson also became just the third player in school history to reach 3,000 career assists.

With Hickson directing the Ranger offense, Wisconsin-Parkside rolled to a 3-0 victory over Davis & Elkins and posted a season-best .356 attack percentage in the process. Lexi Turek and Rebecca Roembke led the way for the Rangers offense with 10 kills each, while Leah Fenske and Elizabeth Mavis each had six kills.

Kasey Davis and Annie Leo paced the defensive efforts of the Rangers with nine digs each, while Hickson had seven digs and Lexi Calloway finished with six digs.

Mavis led a dominant Wisconsin-Parkside blocking performance as she had seven and the Rangers had 11 as a team. Turek and Fenske each had three blocks for the Rangers.

Wisconsin-Parkside found itself trailing 2-0 to Walsh before storming back to extend its current winning streak to three straight matches.

Roembke had a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs, while Davis had 14 kills and five digs. Turek had another double-figure kill match as she finished with 13 kills, while Hickson had eight kills and Fenske finished with seven kills.

Leo also reached double figures in digs with 10, while Hickson and Calloway each had eight digs. Turek led the Ranger blocking effort as she finished with five blocks, while Mavis, Fenske and Katie Adams each had three blocks.

Wisconsin-Parkside finished the match with a .333 attack percentage, which marked the third straight match in which the Rangers have posted an attack percentage above .300.

Wisconsin-Parkside improved to 9-12 overall on the season with the two wins and will complete tournament play on Saturday (Oct. 15) against Northwood at 1 p.m.
