Somers, Wis. (Jan. 22, 2016)-- On senior day, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling team won seven matches on the night to takedown in-state opponent University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 35-7 inside the DeSimone Gymnasium.

Two Ranger seniors accounted for the two pin falls by UW-Parkside (8-2).  Nick Fishback (165-pounds) had the shortest match of the evening, finishing his bout in 2:03.  Joseph Her (133-pounds) secured his pin fall victory in the third round at 6:41.

Nationally ranked No. 1 at 174-pounds, Nick Becker did not disappoint the home crowd.  Becker controlled his match, finishing early with a 22-6 tech fall.  In the next match, seventh-ranked Montrail Johnson (184-pounds) followed suit securing a technical fall 28-13.

Parkside freshman, Pernevlon Sheppard (141-pounds) walked away with a 13-3 major decision against his opponent.  In the final match of the evening, Matt Halverson (285-pounds) put the finishing touches on the Ranger win by muscling his way to an 8-1 decision.  Parkside also won the 149-pound weight class by forfeit, and there was a double forfeit for 125-pounds.  Prior to the first official match of the evening, there was a heavyweight exhibition match.  Redshirt-freshman, Matthew Stopka (285-pounds) made short work of his opponent by pinning him in 0:55.

UW-Stevens Point (5-4) was able to take two matches at the 157 and 197 pound weight classes.  The Pointers are ranked nationally at No. 24 in the NWCA Division III poll.

Midway through the dual, UW-Parkside honored the four outgoing seniors on the squad.  Jake Armellani will be earning a double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice, and he has made the Dean's list for the last seven semesters.  Jake wrestled at 197 and 285 during his four years with the team.  Brandt Welcher will graduate with an Exercise Science degree, and is a two-time Academic All-American.  Brandt is a fifth-year senior and has won 78 matches in his Ranger career.  Joseph Her is graduating with a degree in Marketing.  Joe has started for the Rangers for the last four years, and has accumulated 94 wins so far.  Nick Fishback is graduating this fall with a Sports Management degree.  Currently ranked fourth nationally, Nick has amassed a record of 104-36 during his time at Parkside, and last season finished as All-American by placing fifth nationally at 165-pounds.  Numerous alumni wrestlers were in attendance for the dual, and they were also honored during this time.

The Rangers return to the mat on January 29 when they head to Wheaton, IL for the Pete Wilson Invitational.
